A Woman’s Liberation: Book Launch
On Friday 23rd February 2024, Dr Sinem Bozkurt launched her first autobiographical book, A Woman’s Liberation, at the University of Westminster’s Cavendish campus.
The book lays bare the struggles of her journey of life, as a survivor of domestic abuse, employee then victim of the criminal justice system, the sudden loss of her brother, and her subsequent esteemed successes in academia. Marked by survival, resilience and triumph, the book illustrates Sinem emerging not as a victim but as a symbol of unyielding strength. In resisting every label thrown at her and reframing her identity, Sinem has dedicated her life to emphasising the importance of using an intersectional perspective in academia to understand the flaws of the UK criminal justice process and political system, cultural pressures and stigma, and broader societal failures of responding to issues of race and gender.
